A devastating fire swept through a retirement facility in northern Spain this morning causing tragic consequences. The incident at “Jardines de Villafranca“ home left ten elderly residents dead while others needed urgent medical help

The fire started around 5am in one of the rooms (which is still under investigation) and quickly spread through the building. Fernando Beltran‚ the regions top government official explained that all victims were elderly residents of the facility; two people are in critical state and several others got help for breathing problems

Local mayor Volga Ramirez coordinated with emergency teams - her husband joined early rescue efforts to help get people out. Fire-fighting teams from Zaragoza (located 35km away) rushed to the scene: they worked non-stop for about 2hrs to put out the flames

Emergency services set up a quick response system at the site including:
