The European Union made a big-time decision about its sea-food business with Senegal. They wont continue their fish-catching deal which many local people didnt like anyway
Earlier this year‚ EU officials found big problems with how Senegal watches over fishing boats: both their own ships sailing far away and foreign boats coming to the port of Dakar (which is where everything happens in Senegal). The whole system just wasnt working right — from checking whats going on to keeping track of all the boats
The main issues that made EU stop the deal are:
- Poor watching of Senegalese boats in far-away waters
- Weak controls in Dakars port
- Not enough work against illegal fishing
Its worth noting that this change will affect how things work in Dakars port which is super-important for West African sea trade. The way things were going just didnt match up with EUs rules about catching fish the right way
