The recent trip of Indias top diplomat to Pakistan has stirred up talks about possible improvements in the countries relations. This visit which happened earlier this week‚ was the first of its kind in roughly a decade.
Nawaz Sharif‚ who used to be Pakistans leader‚ told Indian reporters that this visit could be a “good beginning“. He said‚ “This is how talks move forward; Talks should not stop“. His words show hope for better ties between these two countries that often dont get along.
The Indian Foreign Minister went to Pakistan for a meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation. While he was there the capital city was under strict security measures. There are different stories about what happened during the visit. A Pakistani official said the ministers had an “informal interaction“‚ but India says this didnt happen.
Sharif also talked about how both countries have missed chances to get along in the past. He said‚ “We had lost the last 75 years and its important we dont lose the next 75 years“. This shows he thinks its crucial for India and Pakistan to work on their relationship
The visit and Sharifs comments suggest that both sides might be ready to try and fix their troubled relationship. However its clear that there are still many challenges to overcome before India and Pakistan can truly become friendly neighbors
