North Korea cuts ties with South, labels it 'hostile state'

North Korea has officially labeled South Korea a “hostile state“ in its constitution. The North has destroyed border crossings and plans to fortify its southern border‚ marking a shift away from unification goals

North Korea has taken a big step in changing its relationship with South Korea. The North has now called South Korea a “hostile state“ in its laws‚ This change comes after Kim Jong Un said earlier this year that the North should stop trying to join with the South.

On 15th Oct 2024 the Northʼs army blew up parts of roads and train tracks that connect the two countries. They did this to cut off 66-yard long sections on their side. The North says this is okay because their laws now say the South is not friendly.

A person from North Koreaʼs defense office said they will do more to close off the border with the South. But they didnt say if they made other changes to their laws that Kim Jong Un wanted.

Back in Jan 2024 Kim Jong Un said the North should change its laws. He thought the South was working with the US to try and end his government. He wanted to make it clear what land belongs to the North.

Last week North Koreaʼs big government meeting happened. People thought they might say the South was now their main enemy‚ But they didnt say anything about it which made some wonder if they changed their minds.

South Korea still wants to join with the North someday. But they say theyll fight back if the North attacks them. Both sides have been getting more angry with each other since last year. They both said an agreement they made in 2018 to be nicer to each other doesnt work anymore.

Recently‚ the North has been saying mean things about the South. They say the South flew drones into their sky‚ The South wont say if they did or not. When the North blew up the roads and tracks the South fired warning shots near the border

The North now wants to be totally separate from the South. They plan to cut all roads and train tracks between them and make their side of the border stronger
