**Prince William** opens up about his first visit to a homeless shelter with Princess Diana when he was a kid. The experience changed how he saw the world and led to his current work helping homeless people

Prince William remembers his first eye-opening trip to a homeless shelter with his mum Princess Diana (when he was just a small kid)

In the early-90s Prince William went to The Passage – a london-based shelter where his caring mother showed him a world very different from royal life. “I was kinda nervous and didnt know what to expect; but my mum did her thing making everyone feel good with her jokes and warm attitude‚“ he says.

His current work shows how that day stuck with him: about a year ago he started a five-year project called “Homewards“ which aims to help people without homes. The numbers show why its needed; more than 178‚000 households dont have proper homes in England right now (which is way more than last year)

words William heard during his first shelter visit

The young prince played chess and talked with people at the shelter that day – a memory that changed everything: “When youre small you only see whats in front of you; meeting these people gave me a whole new view of life.“ The full story will be shown on tv next week (oct 30-31)
