Climate experts feel un-easy about Donald Trumpʼs possible return to White-house‚ just as world leaders get ready for COP29 climate talks in Azerbaijan next week
During his first term Trump called climate change “fake“ and made many anti-environment moves. He took USA out of Paris climate deal (which Joe Biden fixed when he became president about 3 years ago)
If Trump wins again his team wants to make big-time changes — they plan to break-down and fix EPA structure from scratch. His ex-staff member told NY Times about these ideas; also campaign people say heʼll quit Paris deal again. Antonio Guterres from UN thinks this would hurt the agreement real bad
Project 2025 (a right-wing plan that Trumpʼs team likes but he tries to stay away from) shows more ideas they have:
- Cut EPA money
- Remove science experts who check EPA work
- Stop what they call “Bidenʼs attack“ on oil and gas
- Change all climate rules made by current government
The project paper says they need to stop what it calls “climate crazy“ rules‚ and wants oil-gas business to grow more; this matches with Trumpʼs past ideas about energy
