Covid-19 claims two more lives

Two women died in the past two days with Covid-19. 

An 80-year-old woman with Covid-19 died at the RIGSS isolation hospital, Phuentsholing on March 7. 

The health ministry stated that the deceased was fully vaccinated and presented with fever and loss of appetite for two weeks with urinary tract infection. 

She caught Covid-19 and developed respiratory 

symptoms and had low oxygen saturation after which she was managed for severe Covid-19 pneumonia. Despite the treatment, her conditions continued to deteriorate and she succumbed to the illness. 

The second victim was a 58-year old female who died from Covid-19 at the Gelephu Isolation Hospital yesterday. 

The deceased was a case of thyroid cancer with bone metastasis who is bedridden and on palliative care. She also has other underlying medical 

conditions but received only two doses of the Covid vaccine. “She was managed for severe Covid-19 pneumonia with the best supportive care. However, the patient’s condition deteriorated and despite all the efforts of the Clinical Management Team at Gelephu, the patient succumbed to theillness,” the health ministry stated. 

From a total of 38,921 confirmed Covid-19 cases since March 5, 2020, the country has recorded 14th deaths to date.
