The computed tomography (CT) scan machine at Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital (JDWNRH), which had been down for more than three months has been repaired and is functional. An engineer from Singapore was in the country on bubble mode from April 23 to 29 to fix it.
As of May 3, a total of 67 patients have already availed the service after the machine was repaired on the evening of May 28. “We replaced DMX3 PCB board and 1APS power supply in the machine,” an official said.
Until the machine was repaired, the patients requiring (CT) scan services were sent to Gelephu and Mongar and the critical patients were given MRIs according to the officials.
JDWNRH Director Jigme Namgyel earlier said the repair was delayed as there were cargo-related problems in dispatching the spare parts from Singapore. This time, they requested to prioritise it and they managed to send them.
The local engineer tried fixing it with the spare board that they purchased in February, but it did not work properly. “There were other problems too and that’s how it got delayed.”
The director said the hospital wrote to the relevant companies asking them to fast-track the repair.
Meanwhile, CT scan machines were installed at the national referral hospital in Thimphu and the regional referral hospitals in Mongar and Gelephu in June 2018.
