Dorji Lopen consecrated additional building for monks at Thubten Choeling Buddhist Central School

The Dorji Lopen of the Zhung Dratshang consecrated an additional three-storied building at Thubten Choeling Buddhist Central School in Trongsa yesterday. The additional accommodation is expected to reduce overcrowding and provide better facilities to the monks.

Jigme Do-Ngag Tendzin, a Trulku with the Trongsa Rabdey who is also the founder of the school said the additional building is expected to accommodate more than 200 monks.

“It is important for the school to provide education and include sports facilities such as football, volleyball, table tennis and library and information technology in the classrooms for the monk as well. And we have decided to provide such opportunities,” said Jigme Do-Ngag Tendzin, the founder of the school.

Currently, the school has five teachers and 67 monks. The additional building in the school is anticipated to make the quality of the school experience better for the monks.

“Currently, we have just one classroom for teaching and learning. With the newly constructed building, it will be very convenient for students as they will have separate classrooms. With just one classroom, it used to be overcrowded for the monks and maintaining hygiene was a huge problem. But all these issues will now be resolved,” said Yeshey Pelzom, an English teacher at the school.

“Hereafter, it will be very convenient for us to eat, sleep and learn,” said Jigme Wangchuk, a monk at the school.

Once the monks graduate from the school, they will be enrolled in Shedras or Buddhist colleges for higher studies.

Meanwhile, thousands of devotees received Guru Drakmar Wang or blessing from the Dorji Lopen at the three-day annual Moenlam Chhenmo which ended yesterday.
