More than 2,500 Canadians have signed on to an online service that matches volunteer grocery shoppers with frontline health workers.
Grocery Hero Canada, a free delivery service established just a week ago by a group of friends in Toronto, puts volunteers in touch with medical professionals in their postal code, allowing them schedule a grocery run.
“Medical professionals do not want to go into grocery stores and potentially expose the public. And grocery delivery services are oversubscribed right now. Instead, volunteers across Canada are matched with a medical professional in their neighbourhood by postal code, and put in touch directly to arrange free grocery delivery,” the website said.
Volunteers fill out a Google Form on the website (www.getgroceryhero.com) and they get matched with a nearby health professional.
Grocery Hero says 70 per cent of matches are within one kilometre of each other.
