The southeast district major crime unit is urging anyone who sees him to call 911
Police in southeast B.C. are hoping to identify a person of interest who was one of the last to see Joel Zimbalatti alive before he was found shot to death in Sparwood earlier this month.
The B.C. RCMP southeast district major crime unit is investigating the murder on the afternoon of Oct. 11. Zimbalatti was found dead in a trailer in the 6200-block of Lower Elk Valley Road.

A man was arrested outside the trailer but later released. Investigators have since learned there was a second man, who goes by the alias Slim, who was there at the time of the shooting but left before police arrived.
“Slim is believed to be one of the last people to see Mr. Zimbalatti alive before he was shot, and it is imperative that investigators speak with Slim regarding this investigation,” said Insp. Brent Novakoski, the senior investigating officer for the district’s major crime unit.
Slim was last seen in the Kimberley area on Oct. 11, but is known to have ties to the Okanagan.
He is white, 20 to 25 years old, tall and skinny, with black hair and narrowly trimmed sideburns.
“If Slim sees or hears this call for information, we ask him to contact the police of jurisdiction,” said Novakoski.
Anyone who sees Slim is advised not to approach and to call 911. Anyone with information can call the major crime information line at 1-877-987-8477.
