Kettle and Stony Point First Nation murder victim who vanished called ‘kind and peaceful’

The OPP — who are now leading the investigation — were tight-lipped on the circumstances and cause of death.

So far, no arrests have been made.

Anishinabek Police put out a release on Saturday that Oliver was missing after friends said they were concerned about his well-being.

OPP officers continue to search the area near Hwy. 21 north of Army Camp Rd. inside the former military base in the area.

In addition, CTV reports that an OPP forensics van was at the scene of a burned out smoke shop that went up in flames in June. It isn’t known what connection — if any — it may have to Oliver’s murder.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the police at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

David Oliver was a “kind and peaceful young man.”

But on Sunday, the 29-year-old’s body was discovered on Kettle and Stony Point First Nation outside Sarnia.

Oliver was last seen early Friday, around 3 a.m. Friends and family grew alarmed when he didn’t show up for work.

Cops said around 1:15 p.m. Sunday, human remains were found by the Anishinabek Police Service with OPP searchers assisting. A post-mortem determined the victim had been murdered.

The chief of Kettle and Stony Point First Nation, Jason Henry, knew Oliver well.

“I knew David Oliver. He was a very kind and peaceful young man. He was a very strong and strapping young man. Always very polite to people when I see him, always acknowledge me in a very respectful way,” Henry told CTV News.

“This is nothing you would ever expect or anticipate. Again, we’re a rather peaceful community. We’ve had some tumultuous times in the past but by and large we’re past that and we’re a very unified community here, but this is a very very difficult time for us.”
