Liveblog: Philadelphia at Canadiens

Can they make it five wins in a row?

The Canadiens ride a season-high four-game W streak onto not-always-friendly Bell Centre ice Saturday night.

Despite the hoe team playing its second game in as many nights after a late-Friday flight home from Columbus, the portents are promising.

The Canadiens are hot.

The visiting Philadelphia Flyers are not.

While the Canadiens are breathing down the necks of the Leafs and Bruins in the Atlantic Division, Philadelphia is dead last in the Metro … and in the Eastern Conference.

But the visitors are rested, they’ve won their last two and Habs-Philly games are usually entertaining.

The Canadiens have not won five in a row since … would you believe last season?

While stumbling and bumbling their way to the woeful finish that delivered Jesperi Kotkaniemi as third overall pick in last summer’s draft, the Canadiens won five straight from Nov. 25, when Carey Price shut out the Sabres 3-0, to Dec. 2, when Paul Byron’s hat trick keyed a 10-1 10-1 stomping of the Red Wings.

The run, which ended in a 4-3 loss to St. Louis at the Bell Centre, lifted the Canadiens to the dizzying heights of fourth place in the Atlantic.

The rest is history.

This season’s much better Canadiens are also in fourth. But third place – and maybe second – is within reach.
