Man arrested after 3-month-old infant dies in alleged assault in Scarborough

A 3-month-old infant has died in the hospital Sunday evening after an alleged assault, Toronto police say.

Toronto police responded to a call on Thursday morning at around 10:50 a.m. at 263 Pharmacy Ave. When they arrived, paramedics were treating the 3-month-old infant who suffered from signs of trauma. She was rushed to the hospital and put on life support. She was pronounced dead Sunday evening.

The police arrested 29-year-old Matthew Bouffard, of Toronto, on Thursday and charged him with aggravated assault.

He appeared in court on Friday. His charges will be re-evaluated when the results of the post-mortem examination is complete which will be held on Monday.
