Missing cat found at Scottish campsite after 12 years, but owners don’t want her back

So much for fairytale endings

“We were heartbroken when Georgie didn’t come back on our last day at Loch Lomond. It was such a lovely surprise to hear that she was not only well but had seemingly been having a great time meeting campers,” Amy Davies told the Guardian.

However, there’s no fairytale ending, because the Davies now have a nine-year-old cat. According to the family, Georgie never got along with other pets, and needs space to come and go. She will instead be  staying at the Cats Protection Glasgow adoption centre, until a new home can be found to suit her needs.

“We’re looking for a quiet home for Georgie where she can be the only cat, enjoy her space and have plenty of garden to explore. She’s very loving and enjoys human company so will make a brilliant companion,” Lynsey Anderson, an employee at the centre, told the Guardian.

Twelve years ago, the Davies family’s cat Georgie went missing at a campsite by Scotland’s Loch Lomond. The cat has now been found, but instead of a joyful reunion, it appears the animal won’t be returning to her original Manchester home.

According to the Guardian, Georgie, aged three when her owners last saw her, visited the campsite with the family in 2008, before going missing. After an unsuccessful search, the Davies family left the area, hoping someone would chance upon the stray.

Over the years, it turns out the cat was fed and provided for by camp staff at the Queen Elizabeth Forest Park site, becoming a beloved member of the team. However, with things slowing down due to COVID-19, and a lockdown in place, it appears Georgie had run short on would-be carers. Feeling sorry for her, a member of staff decided to have the cat’s microchip scanned by a local animal charity. The phone number linked to the chip was no longer active, but an email and letter were sent to the Davies family.
