Ottawa police allegedly caught a man masturbating in public, police announced Thursday.

Police said that the west criminal investigations unit began an investigation into “indecent acts in Kanata” last month after receiving information that a “man would park his vehicle and then masturbate and expose his genitals.”

On Thursday morning, police said, officers went to one of the places that the suspect had been known to frequent and saw him masturbating.

The sexual assault and child abuse unit has charged a 24-year-old man with committing an indecent act and criminal harassment.

He was scheduled to appear in court Thursday.

Police asked that anyone who knows anything about similar incidents in which a Honda Civic with a Quebec licence plate — the vehicle allegedly used in Thursday’s incident — was used to contact police at 613-236-1222, ext. 5944 or via email at mcm@ottawapolice.ca.
