Padres put Fernando Tatis Jr. on IL for COVID protocols

The San Diego Padres put three players, including star shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr., on the injured list due to health and safety protocols, the team announced Tuesday.

Jurickson Profar and Jorge Mateo were also placed on the IL due to the COVID-19 protocols.

The Padres will announce corresponding roster moves later Tuesday, prior to first pitch against Colorado.

It’s unclear if the players have tested positive or been exposed, and it’s unclear how much time they will miss.

Tatis is batting .240 with nine home runs, 23 runs scored and 14 RBIs in 26 games this season. Last year’s Silver Slugger in the National League winner has also stolen seven bases.

Profar is hitting .234 in 34 games and Mateo is batting .250 in 22 games.
