Parker’s double-double leads Sparks past Fever

Candace Parker registered 18 points and 11 rebounds to help the Los Angeles Sparks cruise to an 86-75 win over the Indiana Fever on Wednesday night at Bradenton, Fla.

Chelsea Gray added 16 points for the Sparks (3-2). Riquna Williams scored 13 points for Los Angeles, which shot 48.4 percent from the field and was 6 of 17 from 3-point range.

Kelsey Mitchell scored 24 points for Indiana (2-3). Candice Dupree recorded 16 points and seven rebounds, and Teaira McCowan added 13 points for the Fever.

Lauren Cox had one point and six rebounds in 17 minutes off the bench in her WNBA debut for Indiana. Cox, the No. 3 overall selection in April’s draft, tested positive for COVID-19 in early July and was a late arrival to the WNBA “bubble.”

The Fever shot 41.3 percent from the field and made 5 of 18 from behind the arc.

Los Angeles led by eight early in the third quarter before breaking the game open with 10 straight points. Tierra Ruffin-Pratt buried a 3-pointer and Parker followed with a layup to cap the run and make it 56-38 with 5:35 left in the stanza.
