B.C.’s police watchdog agency has been called to Prince George to investigate an RCMP arrest that left a man with a serious head injury.
The incident happened at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday. Prince George RCMP say plainclothes officers attempted to arrest a 28-year-old man after witnessing what they believed was a drug deal in the city’s downtown core.
The man fled on a bicycle, which the RCMP claim he fell off of when officers attempted to stop him.
Police say the man, whose name was not released, was taken to hospital after suffering serious but not life-threatening head injuries.
The Independent Investigations Office of B.C., which investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, has been called in to determine if the police actions or inactions are linked to the man’s injuries.
