Race Weekend weather: Hot, humid and risk of a thunderstorm

After almost two months of cold, consistent rain, we’ve suddenly jumped straight into hot and muggy.

There’s still a 60 per cent chance of showers this afternoon along with a risk of a thunderstorm later in the day.

Today’s high should peak at 18 C. The UV is 7 or high – so if you’re running today or perusing wares at the Great Glebe Garage Sale, make sure to lather on that sunscreen.

Tonight, there’s a chance of both showers and a thunderstorm. The low will be 16 C.

The cloud cover should pack up and move out overnight, making way for an utterly glorious Sunday.

This is the summer day you’ve been waiting for.

Expect full and bright sunshine with a high of 24 C – a temperature nearly unthinkable only a short time ago.

The humidex will be push that high closer to 26 and the UV index, at 8, will make you feel like you’re cooking. Hopefully, you saved some of that sunscreen.

The temperature drops to a slightly above average 12 C on Sunday night (the normal low for this time of year is closer to 9.5 C).

Monday will be another picture-perfect day with a high of 22 C and full sun. Clouds will, however, move in by the evening when some rain is expected. The low will be 11 C.

The rain will last, it’s expected, until Thursday. With highs of 19 C, 24 C, 21 C, and 21 C on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, respectively, it appears that Mother Nature has finally decided to fully switch gears.

Have a great weekend Ottawa – enjoy the weather!
