Small plane crashes in St-Cuthbert; two people dead

ST-CUTHBERT —Two people died after the small plane they were travelling in crashed Friday night in St-Cuthbert in the Lanaudière region, about 75 kilometres northeast of Montreal.

The Sûreté du Québec said it received a call shortly after 8 p.m. saying the plane crashed in a field near Rang Ste-Catherine. It was quickly located by emergency services. The two men were sent to a hospital for treatment and listed in critical condition Friday night. They were declared dead in the hospital overnight on Friday, but SQ has not yet confirmed their identities.

The scene has been cordoned off as authorities attempt to determine the circumstances of the crash. SQ investigators will be at the scene throughout the day Saturday, and officials from the Transportation Safety Board of Canada will also likely be called in to determine the cause of the crash.
