Simona Halep upsets Serena Williams to win Wimbledon singles title. Seventh-seeded Simona Halep played the best tennis of her life and ruined Serena Williams’ chance for a 24th Grand Slam title on Saturday, winning 6-2, 6-2 in the women’s singles final at Wimbledon. “She literally played out of her mind,” said Williams. “Congratulations, Simona. It was a little bit of deer in the headlights from me. When someone plays like that you have to tip your cap and nod your head.”

The Alouettes are looking like a new team under Khari Jones, says the Montreal Gazette’s Stu Cowan. For the first time in a long time, the Alouettes are giving their fans something to cheer about. They’re also feeling pretty good about themselves — and with good reason — following Saturday afternoon’s impressive 36-19 win over Ottawa at TD Place improved their record to 2-2 and moved them into a tie for second place in the East Division with the Redblacks.

Road closures today include the Turcot Interchange, sections of Highway 20 East, exit 6 on Highway 10 West and the access ramp to Highway 134 West. The Turcot Interchange will have its usual weekend construction closings to deal with today, but there is some good news on the Mercier Bridge front.
