Aldi hits out at Tesco with 'savage' comment about its prices on TikTok

Aldi has been accused of "starting trouble" with Tesco after making a dig at the supermarket's prices.

It comes after Tesco posted a video on TikTok inviting people to "audition" for the role of the voice on its self-scanner machines.

In the original video, Tesco asked its followers to "duet" their responses, which involves posting another short clip recorded with users' real-time answers to the questions it was asking.

Thousands of people have already had a go at making their own responses to Tesco's questions, which include "Why do you think you've got what it takes?" and "How would you say 'Please check our bagging area?'".

And the budget favourite Aldi has now weighed in with a response that people have hailed as "iconic".

In the video, a spokesperson from Tesco posing as just a face edited on to a self-scanner machine starts off by saying: "Audition to become the new voice of Tesco's self checkouts by duetting with me.

"So, why do you think you've got what it takes?"

Aldi, using the same filter to put their spokesperson's face on the supermarket's logo, replied saying: "Didn't know that's what this was...not sure we're meant to be here to be honest."

Tesco's next question was "Interesting... and how would you say: "Please check our bagging area"?"

To which Aldi feigned shock, replying: "Tesco, we hardly know each other!"

Tesco then wanted to know what sound its scanners made when shoppers scanned an item, and Aldi provided quite the theatrical response with a sing-song rendition of the beeping noise.

The final question, which Tesco described as "the greatest honour of all", was: "How would you say "Clubcard accepted"?"

To which Aldi hit back: "Don't need a Clubcard when your prices are already low!"

One person said: "Whoever runs Aldi's tik tok need a massive pay rise because they are legends!"

Another agreed, saying: "Aldi's marketing team...iconic".

The "audition" came to a close with Tesco again mentioning that shoppers can use their Clubcards to get better deals on their shopping.

Aldi's response was to roll their eyes and say: "Getting a bit old that now."

The budget supermarket are known for their clever responses on social media, after getting involved in a legal battle with Marks and Spencer last year over their caterpillar celebration cakes.
