Democratic activist and actor Alec Baldwin praised Liz Cheneyand compared her to Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny.
Baldwin made this remark about Wyoming Republicans in a podcast released Tuesday. This is the day Cheney will face voters in the state's Republican primary for a seat in the House of Representatives.
After watching a documentary about the imprisoned opposition leader, Baldwin said he wondered who Navalny is in contemporary US politics.
"Where's a man or woman willing to self-immolate over principle? You're going to end your career over principle," said the actor The Chris Cuomo Project said on the podcast.
"Today there was one. There's Liz Cheney, the Navalny of our current political culture," he said on a former CNN eponymous host.
"It's very, very, very reassuring to see Liz Cheney doing the right thing," said Donald Trump.} said Baldwin, one of the former president's most vehement critics.

"I have been anesthetized all these years into believing what the Democrats are saying, and they are right. How bad it would be if the Republicans were in power."
Mr. Baldwin was a favorite target of former President Trump, and he was Saturday Night Live on his administration.
"These people hate liberals who can throw punches," he said. "If you're a liberal with a pair of balls, they're going to hate you." Asked if he thinks the president deserves a second term and should run for office again in 2024.
"I think he deserves a second term, but again age is a factor."
