  • Saliba on France loss

Arsenal's William Saliba has given his assessment on France's shock World Cup loss to Tunisia.

The reigning world champs lost 1-0 and were denied an equaliser in added-time by VAR.

Saliba, who started the game, said: "It definitely wasn’t an easy game today. The team was changed, there were a lot of players who had never played together, so it was a bit difficult.

"It was a bit better in the second half at the start, but then we conceded that goal. We were pushing at the end to try and score but unfortunately it wasn’t enough.”

He continued: "I wouldn’t say there was a sense of fear, but we were shaken up a bit at the start of the match. But there were players who weren’t in their usual position, so they weren’t used to it.”

He told Apostagolos at the World Cup: “Of course, I’m the player who should score every now and then, I’m here for the goals.

“When I’m on the field I try to score, but I also try to help.

“When we win, I’m happy too. To be honest, I’m not thinking about that. If I get a chance, I’ll score. I’m sure.”

  • Neville prefers Foden to Saka

Gary Neville reckons Phil Foden should keep his England spot ahead of Bukayo Saka.

He said: "Phil Foden has got the precision of a central midfield player in his passing but plays wide. He can beat a man, he can score a goal.

"We saw that last night, some of the runs he made were fantastic. He won the free-kick for Marcus Rashford’s goal.

“I would keep those two in. But I love Raheem Sterling and I love Saka as well so I couldn’t really complain."

  • SunSport exclusive by Jack Wilshere

“There were so many positives to England’s display last night it is hard to know where to start.

“England had quality in every department and confidence must be flowing through the team.

"Gareth Southgate made changes and gave more players in his squad valuable game-time — and they are all staking a claim to start now."

  • Good Morning, Arsenal fans

PSG'S Carlos Soler and AC Milan hero Ismael Bennacer are the latest two midfielders attracting interest from the Gunners. Playmaker Soler, 25, was a scoring substitute in Spain’s 7-0 win over Costa Rica but remained on the bench for Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Germany.

Reports in France suggest Arsenal are amongst his main admirers as he struggles for game time in Ligue 1. Soler’s style has been compared to Gunners’ legend Santi Cazorla and he was a fans’ favourite for Valencia before his summer switch to PSG.

Meanwhile, Milan's Algerian anchorman Bennacer is said to have attracted a “super offer” from a rival club, possibly Arsenal. And it’s claimed in Italy that AC would be keen on Ghanaian hero Thomas Partey in part exchange.

But with Partey a major reason for the Gunners topping the Prem, such a deal looks highly unlikely.

Meanwhile, eight senior Gunners returned to training this week – with 10 players missing of course due to World Cup duty.

Oleksandr Zinchenko, Gabriel Magalhaes, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Cedric Soares, Eddie Nketiah, Rob Holding, Reiss Nelson and Marquinhos were snapped, along with youngsters Matt Smith and Myles Lewis-Skelly.

None of Arsenal’s first-team keepers are available yet – so Under-21 stoppers Hubert Graczyk and James Hillson joined in the session.

And having played in international friendlies just before the World Cup, Kieran Tierney, Martin Odegaard, Karl Hein and Mohamed Elneny have not yet returned.

Finally, Gunners' winger Bukayo Saka remained on the bench in England's 3-0 win over Wales.

  • US matchwinner Pulisic ‘not keen on move’

Christian Pulisic hopes to stay at Chelsea despite links to Manchester United, Arsenal and Newcastle.

That’s according to Sky Sport News’ Florian Plettenberg amid claims the Blues might be willing to cash in on the fringe attacker, who put the USA into the World Cup last 16 with the only goal against Iran.

Borussia Dortmund are also said to be keen on reuniting with the 24-year-old, with Liverpool mentioned too.

Plettenberg described the rumours as “not hot” and posted: “Been told that he wants to stay at #CFC in winter.”

  • Gunners back in training

Eight senior Gunners returned to training this week - with 10 players missing of course due to World Cup duty.

Arsenal’s first-team stars have resumed their build-up to the Prem restarting after Qatar.

Oleksandr Zinchenko, Gabriel Magalhaes, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Cedric Soares, Eddie Nketiah, Rob Holding, Reiss Nelson and Marquinhos were snapped in training.

Youngsters Matt Smith and Myles Lewis-Skelly were also spotted.

None of Arsenal's first-team keepers are available - so Under-21 stoppers Hubert Graczyk and James Hillson joined in the session.

And having played in international friendlies just before the World Cup, Kieran Tierney, Martin Odegaard, Karl Hein and Mohamed Elneny have not yet returned.

  • Arteta linked to Carlos

Arsenal are reportedly monitoring Spain midfielder Carlos Soler.

France Bleu Paris suggest the Gunners are among Soler’s fans as he struggles in his first season with PSG.

The playmaker, 25, was a scoring substitute in Spain’s 7-0 win over Costa Rica but then remained on the bench for Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Germany.

Soler’s style has been compared to Gunners’ legend Santi Cazorla.

He was a fans’ favourite for Valencia before his summer switch to PSG.

  • England cut to 8-1 to win World Cup

England have been cut to joint fourth favourites to win the World Cup and are 2-7 on to get past Senegal in the last 16.

Coral slashed the odds on the Three Lions winning the tournament to 8-1 alongside Argentina - behind Brazil, France and Spain.

Coral’s John Hill said: “It was straightforward for England in the end in their final game in Group B, and as a result of that impressive performance, they have been trimmed in the outright market to 8/1.

“England are warm favourites to get past Senegal in the last 16. They are odds-on to win that game in 90 minutes on Sunday evening."

World Cup outright: 5-2 Brazil, 5 France, 13-2 Spain, 8 Argentina, England, 11 Portugal, 12 Portugal, 14 Netherlands, 40 Bar.

  • Gunners 'eyeing Milan ace Bennacer'

One of the newest names on the list of potential Arsenal targets is AC Milan’s Ismael Bennacer.

The Algerian anchorman, 23, was linked with a "super offer" from a rival club by the Italian media.

And it's also suggested in Italy that Milan would be keen on Arsenal's Ghanaian hero Thomas Partey in part exchange.

But with Partey a major reason for the Gunners topping the Prem, such a deal looks highly unlikely.

  • Jesus not worried about his finishing

Gabriel Jesus insists his finishing is NOT an issue - despite recent criticism over his goal record.

The Arsenal and Brazil striker has come under question with just six goals in 24 appearances this season.

The last of those came in the North London derby win over Tottenham on October 1. It means he has now gone 13 games without a goal for club and country - as in-form talisman Richarlison leads the line for the Selecao ahead of him.

Jesus told Apostagolos at the World Cup: "Of course, I'm the player who should score every now and then, I'm here for the goals.

"When I'm on the field I try to score, but I also try to help.

"When we win, I'm happy too. To be honest, I'm not thinking about that. If I get a chance, I'll score. I'm sure."

Asked specifically if his finishing is a problem, the 25-year-old hit back: "No, I don't think so.

"We can talk about finishing, but the most appropriate thing is to talk about the chances I had. It's different football here and at Arsenal.

"Even though I had a few chances and I lost, I'm sure it's not about submitting. I started the season so well and nobody was asking about it.

"But it's not a problem. I'll kick the ball into the net soon and I won't stop again."

  • Saka drops out of England team

England have made FOUR changes for tonight's crunch World Cup clash against Wales- with Arsenal's Bukayo Saka dropping out.

Gareth Southgate has shuffled the pack for the first time this tournament as his side look to qualify for the knockouts - and send Wales home in the process.

Phil Foden, Marcus Rashford, Kyle Walker and Jordan Henderson are all IN from the start for this evening's mouthwatering clash.

They are all making their first start of the tournament, with Foden also handed a first ever World Cup start.

Bukayo Saka, Raheem Sterling, Mason Mount and Luke Shaw drop to the bench.

There have been calls for Foden to be involved more, with The Sun columnist Piers Morgan describing him as "the most wondrously gifted player we’ve had since Paul “Gazza” Gascoigne".

The 22-year-old came off the bench in the 6-2 win over Iran but was an unused sub in the dreary 0-0 draw against USA.

Rashford will play on the opposite flank after the Manchester United forward netted off the bench in the opening game, with skipper Harry Kane keeping his place up top.

England: Pickford; Walker, Stones, Maguire, Shaw; Henderson, Rice, Bellingham; Rashford, Kane, Foden.

Wales: Ward; N Williams, Mepham, Rodon, B Davies; Allen, Ampadu; Bale, Ramsey, James; Moore.

  • James Madd on Toon?

Newcastle fans have been left convinced that James Maddison wants a transfer to the club.

There was plenty of rumours linking the Leicester star with the Magpies - as as well as Arsenal - over the summer but he stayed with the Foxes.

The 26-year-old has revealed that he and the Newcastle players also involved in the England squad, Callum Wilson, Kieran Trippier and Nick Pope, often joke about him joining the club.

Maddison said: "Me, Cal, Tripps and Popey have been having a bit of banter.

"It's three on one to be fair, with the Newcastle boys.

"We've been having a bit of banter about the Boxing Day game and the bit of speculation last summer."

  • Slap-up for the cup

England wags are gearing up for tonight's crunch Battle of Britain against Wales with a slap-up meal.

Gareth Southgate's side can seal top spot in Group B with victory over Wales.

And many of them will once again have their partners in attendance as they look to reach the last-16.

Before the game, some of them met up and had a bite to eat to fill their stomachs.

Amongst them were Bukayo Saka's girlfriend Tolami Benson.

But the 22-year-old's food might not have tasted as good as others because the Arsenal man is set to start on the bench.

Harry Maguire's sister Daisy was also out for dinner, with the big defender expected to keep his place in the side after his fine USA showing.
