At least one person has been shot during an active shooting at a hotel in Michigan.
The scene at the Hampton Inn Hotel in downtown Dearborn is active and dangerous, Michigan State Police said on Thursday. The suspect is barricaded inside the hotel but the situation is “contained” and authorities are negotiating with him.
At least one person died and several others were injured, Fox News reported.
Police arrived at the scene around 1pm and shots were fired from the third floor of the hotel until shortly after 2pm.
An employee at the Dearborn Federal Savings Bank located across the street from the hotel told The Independent that they were placed on lockdown until further notice. A nearby elementary school has also been placed on a “soft lockdown” as the situation progresses.
“There are cop cars and police tape all around the street,” another employee at a cocktail bar in the area also said.
Sources told local news station WXYZ that the shooting might have unfolded after an eviction attempt.
Troopers and officers are working on clearing the entire area around the hotel and have asked the public to stay away from the area. SWAT teams are also on the scene
