Ayrshire caregivers who approved work not done put patients at risk of harm

A support worker in Ayrshire put two patients at risk of harm when they approved care tasks that were not performed.

Kerry Neal's actions were deemed "dishonest" by the Scottish Social Welfare Council (SSSC). This is after pre-populating her entry in the patient log for work she has not done.

Allegations date back to December 2015, when Neil was employed as a personal caregiver by the Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership, East of Cumnock.

Neil signed a MAR (medication record) showing that she administered the nightly medication to the patient.

She was also found to have prefilled an entry for a bedtime visit to the same patient and signed off on hoisting her check her log when this was not done.

In another patient case, Neil did not report expediting her bedtime visits, so the patient received her two bedtime visits.

On another occasion, Neil prepopulated an entry for her bedtime visit in the patient's personal caregiver visit record, and at 7:45 p.m. said to have changed the position of case.

The SSSC told Neil:
