A man has been hospitalized following a suspected car explosion in the Newton Park district of South Belfast, police said.
The man is being treated for facial injuries, and police and an ammunition technician remain on scene.
A cordon was set up and many houses were evacuated.
Civilians are asked to avoid the area.
South Belfast Police tweeted. "We are currently at the scene of a security alert in the Newton Park area. One man has been taken to hospital. Cordon expected to stay overnight, many homes evacuated."
