The body was found in search of a 14-year-old boy who went missing in the lake

A teenager has drowned in a lake in Hertfordshire, police confirm.

A 14-year-old boy was drowning in Cheshunt last night.

Firefighters and paramedics were dispatched after reports that the boy was "in water but he has not resurfaced."

A massive search operation involving helicopters and police divers began shortly before 5:00 pm.

Police now confirm that the body was found about six hours later.

The boy's family has been notified prior to the formal identification process.

A Hertfordshire Police spokeswoman said: “Emergency services unfortunately found a body yesterday following reports of a 14-year-old boy in distress on Lake North Met, off Cadmore Lane, Cheshunt.”

The circumstances surrounding the deaths are unknown, but they come amid warnings against swimming in lakes and rivers during heatwaves.
