Body sitting in chair in California home sat there for years while son collected money

A decomposing corpse sitting in a chair at a house inCaliforniahas been there for three years, according to authorities.

Randall Freer, 63, died at the foot of the Sierra Nevada Mountains when she left her company, according to Lt. Greg Stark of the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office.

A sheriff's deputy went to the man's family at his home in Wallace, Calif., to inform them that they heard a fan spinning and saw a dead body sitting in a recliner.

According to Lieutenant Stark, evidence at the scene suggested the corpse had been there for years.

"It was badly decomposed and left with partial skeletons," he told the Los Angeles Times.

"My 28-year law Enforcement experience is that these types of searches are extremely rare, and you don't usually find someone dead for this long in a residence."

Caraveras County Coroner Kevin Razio has identified the man in the house as Randall Freer's father, Ada Clinton Freer, 91.

Officials expect to find him dead of natural causes, with no signs of wrongdoing.

Investigators believe Ada Freer was the last person to sign the check. 2016, but his son continued to collect funds from the account until his own death.

"The son assumed his father's identity. I think he may have been living and living away from his father," Raggio said.

"When his father died, he found him, left him sitting in a chair in the house, and continued to use his funds for his own purposes. I couldn't say my father was dead, and I was collecting social security and retirement money.

"Everything has been dry for too long. He's been there for years and years." If my son was still alive, basically, the man would still be sitting there."
