Boy, 12, ‘died crossing busy road because of flooded underpass’, says family

TYLER'S TRAGEDY

A BOY died crossing a busy road because its underpass was flooded, his family says.

Tyler Wills, 12, was hit by a car on Friday after days of heavy rain and died later in hospital.

His stepdad, Pete Fraser, 35, said he was forced to try to cross because the underpass had filled with water.

And he is demanding action so no other family in Crawley, West Sussex, faces similar heartache.

He said: “I don’t remember when that underpass hasn’t flooded in winter.

“When I was a child we’d run across that road every day.

“Why hasn’t it been sorted?”

Pete said seeing workers draining the underpass at the weekend added insult to injury.

Tyler’s father, Craig Wills, is starting a petition calling for action.

On Friday, emergency services rushed to the scene at about 2.45pm and the youngster was rushed to hospital, but sadly died soon after.

Several floral tributes and teddy bears were left at the scene as cops appeal for information relating to the crash.

One left by his heartbroken mum and dad tells of his "gorgeous smile" and "kind heart".

His grieving parents also called him the "brightest star shining in the night time sky" in the emotional tribute.

West Sussex council declined to comment as police are investigating.
