14-year-old boy dies after difficulty swimming in lake in 26-degree heat

A teenage boy died last night after getting into trouble on a lake in Cheshunt, police have reported.

Hertfordshire Police have confirmed that the body of a 14-year-old boy was found at Loch Met North in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire.

Police, fire brigade, and paramedics were called to the scene shortly before 5:00 pm.

They had received reports that a teenage boy had disappeared while swimming in the water.

The body was found before 11:00 pm last night.

The boy has not yet been formally identified, but the boy's next of kin have been notified.

The boy's body was found after a six-hour emergency search party searched North Met Lake.

This tragedy follows drowning in a lake in the Water Park at Datchet near Windsor in Burks, a young named locally by other parents. Kaila Hill happened just two days after him.

Liquid Leisure Aqua Park remains closed today/yesterday (Tuesday) following the death of little Kira, with a police investigation continuing.

The water park owner was already embroiled in a dispute with Datchet's local council over allegations that the assault course items installed on the lake were non-compliant. A planning investigation was pending.

Berkshire coroner Heidi Connor had opened a hearing in Datchet's drowning case and was planning to postpone the hearing and allow the police investigation to continue. Keira's family was found comforted at their home in Croydon.

In the wake of the recent Cheshunt drowning incident, Hertfordshire police today issued a statement in connection with the incident.

A spokesperson said: “Following reports that a 14-year-old boy was in trouble yesterday/Monday evening on Lake North Met, off Cadmore Lane, Cheshunt, emergency services sadly found a body.

” Police were contacted shortly before 5pm and reported that the teenager had been submerged in the water but had not resurfaced.

"Police, fire and rescue services and the East of England Ambulance Service were called upon. Immediately dispatched to the lake, emergency services conducted a search of the area, including the use of police helicopters and professional police divers. The boy's next of kin have been notified, although formal identification has not yet taken place.''

A post-mortem examination will be conducted to ascertain the exact cause of the boy's death. Inspections are conducted, investigations are conducted. The circumstances of his death have been clarified and adjourned by the Hertfordshire Coroner.
