Boy shopping with mum 'knocked out' by man after row erupts in Morrisons aisle

A schoolboy was knocked unconscious while shopping with his mum after accidentally bumping into a man in an aisle.

Callum Wright, 13, his mum Ellie, and his siblings had gone into Morrisons on Lakeside Retail Park, Scunthorpe, when a man came “flying around the corner”.

Bashing shoulders with Callum, he is said to have threatened to kill the schoolboy before grabbing his mother by her wrists.

When she fell to the floor he attacked Callum, punching him several times in the face and leaving him unconscious.

Police have confirmed they are investigating the incident, which has left the lad afraid to venture to the shops.

Mum Ellie told GrimsbyLive: “I told the man that Callum was only 13 years old and then he came right up to my face and just stared at me.

"He said 'do you think you're a big man?' before threatening to kill him. He grabbed my wrist and started screaming at me."

"I ended up falling on the floor while he started punching Callum.

"I was told after that he'd knocked Callum out, but carried on punching him.

"After they got off us they started running out of the shop and other people said they saw them running across the car park.

"After everything, I was just trying to take care of him and the other children. My main concern was to protect my kids, but the fact I couldn't stop this man makes me feel like I've failed as a mum.

"When we got home, he just laid with me and cried. I haven't seen him cry since he was a kid, so it struck me how much it impacted him."

Ellie added she wants justice for her son.

She added: “Awareness needs to be raised about what happened, Callum needs justice.

"No person with that amount of anger in them should be allowed in public."

A spokesman for Morrisons confirmed the supermarket was assisting police with their inquiries.

Police said they were trying to establish the circumstances of the incident.

In a statement, Humberside Police said: "We received two reports of assault which is believed to have occurred yesterday at Morrisons on Lakeside Parkway in Scunthorpe.

“Our enquiries are continuing as we look to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

"We would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has any information to contact us on 101, quoting reference number 23000076436."
