Brave man tackles active shooter with flying kick to head before fearlessly wrestling gun

Footage has revealed the flying kick of a brave onlooker as an active shooter let loose on a victim.

A video showed that a fearless kung-fu kicker managed to confront the attacker with a flying kick before he and a woman wrestled him to the ground and removed gun from his grip.

Officers arrived at 5:56pm on October 1 at the incident in Silver Spring, Maryland, to find a man bleeding from a number of injuries and the suspect being restrained by passersby.

A black handgun was also found at the scene and law enforcement confirmed another live round was found in the chamber.

Police arrested Marcus Elijah Conway and charged him with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, use of a firearm to commit a felony, and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

Montgomery County Police Department said in a statement: "Upon arrival, officers observed a man suffering from multiple injuries to his body and bleeding from what appeared to be gunshot wounds.

"Officers also observed the suspect, Marcus Elijah Conway restrained by multiple witnesses at the scene. There was also a small black handgun, that a bystander stated they had taken away from Conway."

Conway, currently held without the hope of bail, is due to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on October 28.

Witnesses said they heard an "audible click" as the suspect lay on top of the victim, it is believed the sound was a misfire

"Witnesses reported that Conway was observed laying on top of the victim, struggling over something, until the victim appeared to go limp," police said. "Conway then rolled away from the victim and was seen pointing a black, Taurus.38 Special, 5 shot revolver at the victim's head.

"At that time, a bystander kicked Conway and began fighting him over the gun. Additional witnesses joined to help get the gun away from Conway and were able to gain control over both Conway and the gun, until 3rd District officers arrived on scene."

Police said the detectives were appealing for information regarding the suspect and asked the public to approach them.

Maryland has the 22nd highest rate of gun violence in the US, according to the Every Town gun safety campaign. Its data said that on average, 724 people die from guns in the state every year and a further 1,747 are injured.

It also said: "Maryland has the 14th-highest rate of gun homicides and gun assaults in the US. In Maryland, 78% of all homicides involve a gun, compared to 75% nationwide."
