Construction begins on Shotts' new community hub

Construction has begun on the former Springhill Community Center in Shotts to create a new community hub.

The redeveloped building is managed by Getting Better Together (GBT) – Shotts on behalf of the Springhill community to create a modern space with facilities for a wide range of activities and events.

This community group included representatives from the North Lanarkshire Council (NLC), The Environmental Key Fund, Scottish Power Renewables and GBT to mark the start of construction work at the site.

Mark Slorance, Executive Manager of GBT, said:

"We have reached this stage thanks to the dedication and support from GBT staff, the NLC, our funding partners, and of course the community.

"Everyone involved We need to congratulate you for realizing your vision and bringing a modern community hub to the region.

This project was brought together by the Scottish Government's Renewable Capital Grants Fund, the Environmental Keys Fund and the NLC. Funded by the Ministry of Education.

When opening next year, the Community Hub will offer a range of services for all ages.

These include vacation programs for youth groups and children, adult learning services focused on building numeracy and literacy in the community; Social activities for older adults focused on coping with isolation and loneliness.

There will also be community health outreach clinics, wellness, health and fitness programs.

“This will be an excellent facility in the heart of the community. I would like to congratulate everyone at GBT for their tireless efforts to reach this milestone of the project.” Fair Work Committee.

"The council will contribute to the cost and help the group secure other funding to provide a quality building that meets the needs of all local groups with whom this project will use it.

We took over the operation of the hall, redeveloped the facility, and purchased the hall. And it will land in 2019.

This group works with the Council on facility funding applications and planning. Work is scheduled to be completed in March 2023.
