Tory leader: Snak highlights subsidies to tackle cost of living, Truss rejects 'Gordon Brown economics'
Tory lead candidate Liz Truss, who used to take a tough stance on "subsidies", would want to help families in need if she became prime minister. I hinted that I would consider further assistance.
Addressing viewers of GB Her News at Lee in Greater Manchester Wednesday, she said: Work hard and do the right thing.
"If I am elected Prime Minister, the Prime Minister will secure an emergency budget and we will consider this issue in a round and resolve this issue."
Mr Truss said: He previously opposed further "subsidies," but denied that he ruled out additional direct assistance to families struggling with rising utility bills.
Her competitor Rishi Sunaksaid the government had a "moral responsibility" to help families through the cost of living crisis and offered billions of pounds in additional aid.
Supporters of Mr. Sunak said Mr. Truss appeared to be retreating from his previous position.
"This is a major turning point for the biggest problem facing the country right now," said a spokesman for the campaign.
