Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) sources saydrought has been declared in the southwest. May be vulnerable to drought after it was announced Thursday that it is expected to.

This follows the start of a four-day yellow weather warning for extreme heat across much of England and Wales. The alert officially begins on Thursday and ends on Sunday.

Temperatures are forecast to soar to 32 degrees, but will fall short of the record-breaking levels seen in July.

Mercury surpassed 40C for the first time in the UK this month, with a record high of 40.3C at Conningsby, Lincolnshire on 19 July.

A hosepipe ban has already been announced locally for Southern Water and South East Water customers.

Very little precipitation is forecast until next week, when the heat wave is predicted to end.

There is no specific goal that must be achieved to declare drought. Instead, it is determined by many factors, including impacts on public water supplies, agriculture, the environment, and industry.

The Environment Agency's National Drought Group (NDG) looks at statistics such as rainfall, water levels in rivers, lakes and reservoirs, and temperature projections.

The NDG then asked whether all these numbers together constitute a drought. , which determines how severe the drought is and how long it will last.

Then the Environment Agency decided to announce the drought, Sky News reported.

The most recent drought was declared in 2018, and a more severe one in 2011.

So far, people living in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight have had hosepipe use throughout the country. It is prohibited.

Temporary restrictions on water will also be in place for customers in Kent and East Sussex from Friday, with similar restrictions for Welshwater customers in Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire. It will be charged later this month.

Thames Water has indicated that it will introduce a hosepipe ban in the coming weeks.
