Dumfries Cafe joins forces to offer eco-friendly cups

A group of cafes has launched a new service using eco-friendly cups.

He of Dumfries Peter Smith, manager of Kings Coffee and Books on Queensberry Street, helped bring the YoYo Cup idea to customers.

His two other venues participating in eco-activities are The Stove and Mrs Green's Teashop.

Smith, 35, said:

"The cup is metal, not plastic, and this is a trial run.

"The cup has a £3 deposit and is insulated to keep your drink hot or cold.

"And if you forget something and end up paying for other new things during your trip, you can get them back and all your deposit will be refunded.

"I was born and raised in Dumfries, but traveled a lot after school and moved to Australia for a while.

"I've seen this kind of idea in similar projects in Australia and New Zealand.

"So I think this is the first local one. We are confident that it will be successful and help the environment by reducing the use of plastic.”

He added: "The beauty of these cups is that they keep your coffee very hot, or very cold if you like cold drinks on a hot summer day."
