EastEnders spoilers: Phil Mitchell makes a horrifying discovery about sister Sam

SAM Mitchell's secrets are about to unravel as she remains under Shirley Carter's thumb.

In upcoming EastEnders scenes, Phil Mitchell makes a shocking discovery about his younger sister - how will he react?

The Mitchells are struggling with all kinds of problems, more or less difficult to overcome, and sometimes find comfort within their own clan.

But in the case of the troublemaker played by Kim Medcalf, turning to her own is impossible as it would mean coming clean about all of her recent underhanded scheming.

With his impending court appearance looming, Billy Mitchell (played by Perry Fenwick) seeks solace in his cousin Sam who offers him moral support - while Phil (Steve McFadden) is feeling guiltier than ever.

Things go from bad to worse when DCI Samantha Keeble threatens to go after the rest of the Mitchell family unless Jimmie is dropped from defending Billy.

Elsewhere, Shirley Carter (Linda Henry) blackmails Sam for more money and threatens to tell Phil the truth about her actions.

An unimpressed Sam calls her bluff but it backfires when Shirley storms off to find Phil.

The pair then run into Jonah Tyler, who is looking for Sam and, especially, the money she owes him.

Jonah grabs Sam's arm, only to be reprimanded by Phil who intervenes to punch him in the face.

The thug retaliates with a chilling threat to Phil's family.

The Walford tough man reels from the altercation, just as Shirley reveals all to Phil - Sam has been scamming him for months.

Sam returned to Albert Square after several years away with the firm intention of destroying the Mitchell empire.

This led her to organise a fake shooting at local wine bar Peggy's, which resulted in her being taken to hospital after she was accidentally shot.

When Phil began to lose trust in her, Sam was even willing to make it up to him by kidnapping Lewis Butler, who raped her nephew Ben.

The former Prince Albert manager unfortunately ran away when Ben refused to kill him.

How will Phil react to Shirley's revelation?

Can Phil and Sam work things out?

EastEnders airs from Monday to Thursday on BBC One.
