Erskine unveils new gym to help veterans stay in shape

Erskine Reid Macewen Activity Center unveils new gym for veterans designed to maintain functional fitness.

The Erskine Reid Macewen Activity Center (ERMAC), based in the Veterans Village of Bishopton, has a fully equipped and accessible gym specifically designed for veterans.

Top-of-the-line equipment purchased with his £25,761 donation to the Veterans Foundation includes a range of spaces and equipment readily available to veterans.

The new gym has squat and mobility stations, punching bags, skis, rowing, cardio equipment, weights, some medicine and a slam ball to keep veterans healthy.

Erskine is a charity that provides supportive care to veterans. The charity cares for people through four nursing homes and a Veterans Village where people stay in cottages built for veterans.

Erskine provides social, recreational and training facilities at our activity centers to help veterans get the momentum going for the next phase of their lives.

Activity Center Manager Debs Dixon said:

"We are very pleased to offer them the opportunity to improve their physical and mental well-being while being in a safe place.

"Project Diversity With the youngest at 34 and the oldest at 84, with age groups already using equipment, our trainers have the skill sets to match individual needs with specific training plans.”

The Veterans Affairs Foundation facilitated the conversion of a previously unused space within the Center into a highly functional gym.

The funding provided by ERMAC will cover three years of tuition, services, It also costs maintenance. The development of individual performance programs by instructors He Alistair Lamb and Annie Earley will have a profound impact on the physical and mental health of veterans, spouses and caregivers within their communities.

Craig Lynes of Clydebuilt Fitness added: “When we were asked for a quote on creating a gym with adaptable equipment, we were very excited to be part of such an innovative project. We are pleased to have developed a gym that is accessible to veterans of the Center.

"The gym has the same equipment as found in other gyms, except for the Erskine gym, which accommodates disabilities and Allow members to exercise safely with fellow veterans.”
