Former Arsenal hero Mesut Ozil started for Basaksehir and got off to a nightmare start with the reserves batting 7-1.

Former Arsenal star Mesut Ezil has had a nightmare start at new club Basaksehir.

That was after he suffered a 7-1 crushing defeat in his first appearance for the reserves.

Ozil, 33, joined the Turkish side inJuly after playing with rivals Fenerbahçe for his 18 months.

Former Germany international made 37 appearances and scored nine goals after moving from Arsenal in January 2021, but is out of contract.

And Ozil hopes to rebuild his career with Basaksehir, who finished fourth in last season's Super Lig.

Basaksehir has selected Ozil for Wednesday's match against his side's reserves Kashin Pasha to boost fitness for the match.

However, things did not go as planned as the hosts suffered his dreadful 7–1 defeat.

Ozil played his first 45 minutes of the match, with Kasim Pasha winning his 1–0.

And he could only watch helplessly as Basaksehir hit back only once, and he scored six more goals in the second half.
