Ex-Tory MP Imran Ahmad Khan loses appeal after conviction for sexually assaulting boy, 15

Former Wakefield MP Imran Ahmad Khan has lost a Court of Appeal challenge against his conviction for sexual assaulting a 15-year-old boy.

Khan was convicted of sexually assaulting the teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, at Southwark Crown Court in April.

The 49-year-old had denied the allegation and challenged his conviction at the Court of Appeal last month.

On Monday, the appeal was rejected with Judge Michael Sweeney saying he had "no doubt" that Khan's trial was fair and his conviction was safe.

The original court case heard how he forced the teenager to drink gin and touched his feet and legs, coming within "a hair's breadth" of his privates, as he went to sleep in 2008.

Jailing Khan at Southwark Crown Court on Monday afternoon, Mr Justice Baker said the former MP had shown no remorse.

"The only regret you feel is towards yourself for having found yourself in the predicament you face as a result of your actions some 14 years ago," he said.

The shamed 48-year-old was expelled from the Conservative Party and later resigned from the Commons.

On April 14 he announced he would resign, saying: "I have therefore regrettably come to the conclusion that it is intolerable for constituents to go years without an MP who can amplify their voices in Parliament.

"I am now able to focus entirely on clearing my name. As I intend for this to be my only statement, I would like to apologise to my family and community for the humiliation this has caused them."
