This comes as experts say drought is looming across Britain after record temperatures hit last month. This is due to the warning. Thames Water joins Manx Water, Welsh Water, Southern Water and South East Water to impose restrictions on water use by customers.

Yorkshire Water had previously announced that restrictions would apply to customers on 26 August, while South West Water announced on Monday that consumption would begin on 23 August.

An announcement from Thames Water means 15 million people in the south of England will be banned from using hoses from 24 August.

This is the largest hosepipe ban ever enacted.

Thames Water said earlier this month that the ban would be announced "in the coming weeks", in line with forecasts by the Bureau of Meteorology.

"Temporary bans [TUB] ] we need to balance customer and environmental impacts when considering the implementation of drought plans to inform our decisions.  51}

"We are gearing up for winter into summer, leveraging abstraction earlier this year to fill London reservoirs."

They A statement released on August 9, which I later added, said: Due to the extremely hot weather this week, we will be announcing a temporary ban in the coming weeks.

Southern Water's hosepipe ban went into effect on August 5 for customers in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, as well as South East Water.

The Thames water ban brings the total number of British people affected to about 24 million.
