The body was found during a search for a teenage boy who disappeared after swimming in the Fairlop Waters lake in Ilford.
Immediately after 12:30 am on Monday, an emergency service was called to the scene.
Police confirmed that the body was found this morning by police officers, London Emergency Services, the London Fire Brigade, and a professional driver.
A police helicopter was also called into a lake in East London.
A 17-year-old family member was notified.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police Department toldMyLondon: Police officers were told that a 17-year-old man was willing to go into the water to swim and did not return to the shore.
"A colleague of the National Police Air Service, London Fire Brigade, and Marine Police Unit conducted the first search. The area was also searched by professional divers, then on Monday evening. The body was recovered from the water. The teenager's family is informed and supported by a professional officer.
"Currently, death is treated as unexpected. Fairopwaters will not be open to the public for the duration of the inquiry. "
