Over £2,000 in grants awarded to five Lanarkshire community groups

Five Clydesdale community groups are funded by the South Lanarkshire Council.

At a Clydesdale Area Committee meeting, five groups were awarded £2,472 worth of funds.

Carluke Men's Shed was given £450 in equipment and Carnwath's Lanarkshire Federation Scottish WI was given £300 in travel expenses.

Biggar Kirk at the Gillespie Center was awarded £555 for equipment and ISKCON (Scotland) Limited in Lesmahgård was awarded £600 for equipment, materials, administration and advertising.

The Carnwath Agricultural Society was given £567 for facilities, administration and advertising.

The amount awarded to the group is a recommended amount of 60% of the amount originally requested by the group, although the Commission may decide more or less.

For Carluke Men's Shed, the recommended amount was £270, but counselor Lindsey Hamilton (Clydesdale West) was asked to help with the costs of moving the group to the new facility. I offered to give the group the full £400. This was supported and finally approved by Councilor David Shearer (Clydesdale West).

South Lanarkshire Council operates a community grant scheme to support locally constituted community groups and voluntary associations.

The purpose of this scheme is to fund activities and projects that benefit the community . Bringing people together to participate in a community for the purpose of enjoying education, recreation, leisure and other community activities and improving the local environment.

We can help groups with a variety of activities, including administration and advertising costs, equipment and material purchases, annual excursions and admissions, start-up costs, and special events.

The total annual allocation of Community Grants in the Clydesdale area is £25,750, with the remaining balance currently at £18,158.
