Five ways you can lower your cooking costs with an air fryer as energy prices spiral

AIR fryers are the must- have money-saving gadget of the year.

Energy price hikes have helped to catapult them to popularity as they are much cheaper to run than an oven.

So here are some top hacks to make the most of the kitchen saviour.

LAZY LEFTOVERS: The air fryer is perfect for reheating leftovers that would go soggy if you put them in the microwave, such as pizza.

Just pop a slice in the tray and it should be piping hot and ready to enjoy in three to five minutes.

It’s a good idea to line the tray with foil or perforated parchment to make it easier to clean if the cheese starts to melt.

JUST DOUGH IT: If you’ve got a bread roll that has gone a little stale, you can freshen it up with an easy trick.

Quickly run it under the tap and then pop it in the air fryer for a few minutes at 180C.

EGGCELLENT: You can even make “boiled” eggs in the air fryer.

For a medium-size soft-boiled egg with a runny yolk, Lianaskitchen.co.uk recommends around eight minutes at 150C, or for hard-boiled around 12 minutes.

Larger eggs will need a little longer and it might take a few tries to get them just the way you like them.

SPRAY TIME: Oil sprays are ideal for using in the air fryer because they deliver a fine mist evenly over the food you’re cooking.

GO GO GADGETS: Up your air fryer game with a few key accessories.

While you can pick up plenty of cheap add-ons which make big promises, watch out for unknown brands with poor reviews.
