Mallorca tourist train overturns, throwing vacationers onto road, 4 of 11 children injured

At least 11 people, including at least four children, were injured after a tourist train overturned in Mallorca.

Several passengers were thrown overboard as one of his carriages overturned at a turn.

The drama took place around 1pm today in the popular Cala d'Or beach area in the southeast of the island.

Gruesome footage from the crash site showed medical responders around a child on the ground who appeared to be crying.

The overturned carriage was the last carriage of the tourist train.

Eight of the casualties were taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital, while another three of him were treated at the scene.

A local emergency responder spokesperson confirmed:

"The Emergency Response Coordination Center initiated procedures used to respond to multiple casualty incidents and sent five ambulances to the scene.

“Eight of the casualties were transferred to hospital, six to Levant Hospital and two to Quiron Palmaplanas Hospital.

"Most of the casualties suffered only minor injuries, but one minor was classified as seriously injured and another was injured at the scene." I suffered injuries for which the outcome cannot be determined.”

Cala Ferrera is a sand and rock cove near Cala d'Or that forms part of the municipality called Felanici.

Felanici's Mayor Jaume Montserrat was among those who rushed to the scene, along with Maria Pons, the mayor of the neighboring municipality of Santanyi, after hearing about the drama.

A Felanici City Hall spokesperson confirmed:

"Medical services, local police, civil protection and other agencies rushed to the scene to assist.
"Traffic in the area has been halted, and casualties were sent to hospital by ambulance.
