Physician Cromwell Mortimer reported seeing a UFO in central London and drew a diagram of a mysterious spacecraft. Saw it over St James' Park on the way back to Westminster at 8:40 pm on the 16th.

He wrote: As it rose to a height of about 20 degrees, it moved almost parallel to the horizon and over the houses.

He believed he passed through Bloomsbury before "losing sight at the Haymarket".

He added: I had enough time to fully contemplate its appearance.
His drawing showed a flame head "trapped in an open case" with an "iron band." It had a long tail of light that faded into darkness.

Mortimer, who published a report in the journal Philosophical Transactions vol XLIII in 1746, has recently come to light.
