'Glamorous' mother of eight dies at 47 from fear of appearance due to rare disease after years indoors

A 'glamorous' mother of eight has died at the age of 47. She spent years indoors because of her fear of her appearance.

Nicola Kilby could barely see herself in her mirror and became self-conscious about her appearance after her rare illness changed her appearance. I refused to take a picture of her because

Her mother battled an inflammatory vascular disease with which she had battled for five years, but a condition known as Wegener's granulomatosis (GPA) began changing her appearance already before she was diagnosed. I was there.

The condition attacked her ears, nose, sinuses, kidneys and lungs, leaving her deaf in both ears.

It also affected her soft palette, rendering her unable to speak and her nose collapsed.

Her devoted mother and her grandmother passed away last month. I was.

His son Kieran, 25, from Sutton Coldfield, raised awareness of GPA, his mother's funeral costs and British VasculitisResearch. .

He said on his Birmingham Live:

"She adored her children and grandchildren, and welcomed those who walked in through the door like family.

"She was a very strong woman. Even when the worst pain imaginable struck her, she never let up. She didn't want anyone else to bear what she was going through."

Nicola lived in Cirencester, the Cotswolds, with her husband of ten years, Kevin.

She has eight children left to her, from the age of eight to her twenty-seven.

Of his mother's battle with his GPA, hotel employee Kieran said: pass through.

"One of the things my mother struggled with the most was the dramatic change in her appearance. Her nose was eaten away, she became deaf in both ears, and she lost a lot of her soft palette.

"Something as trivial as a cold could seriously affect her, eventually leading to her being hospitalized. That made the Covid pandemic very difficult for her.

"Doctors initially said she could live 10 years with the disease, but it took its toll very quickly. She couldn't even use stairs. She was very weak.

"It was hard for my mother because she hadn't left the house for years. She felt so self-conscious that people were staring at her.

"Even looking in the mirror was too difficult for her because her nose was damaged. None of us have photos of my mom from the last five years because she didn't allow it. Even with grandchildren on her birthday.”

Kieran recalled his mother's reaction to an episode ofThis Time Next Yearwith Davina McCall.

He said: ``All my mother wanted was a normal nose. It was weird when I saw that episode on , because it's not a word, you hear it a lot like cancer.

"My mother started asking questions about prosthetics. everyone started considering getting her a nose done for Christmas, but all the clinics I could find were either in America or outrageous."

He said added: “Not only did it affect her physically, but it also had a huge impact on her mental health. } "Me   and my brother bought a French bulldog to keep her company. I started taking requests and had friends to talk to, which really stuck with me.

"She came to feel hurt by being an extroverted normal mother. She wanted to take her kids to the park and do normal things as a mother, but it completely changed every part of her life."

Kieran Funds raised through the GoFundMe page will be used to pay for funeral expenses, a memorial bench in Nicola's name and the charity Vaculitis UK.
