Gold medalist Irish McColgan leads Team Scotland from Commonwealth Games as flag bearer

Gold and silver medalist Irish McColgan capped off a great two weeks in Scotland at the Commonwealth Games as one of the first flag bearers at tonight's closing ceremony.

The lioness walks out of her stadium Alexander of Birmingham, donning her tartan checked kilt, the 31-year-old lioness brings home her 10,000m of gold and her 5,000m of silver when she flew Soltire proudly over her shoulder. Her win surpassed the records set by her mother's Liz in 1986 and her 1990, making it a competition record.

Teammate Laura Muir also won gold in the 1500m and 800m. This year's competition was Scotland's most memorable competition outside of Glasgow in 2014, earning her 49 medals, including 12 gold, 11 silver and 26 bronze.

While Scotland lit up the racetrack, the national championemerged victorious in boxing with his three gold medals in the ring. Light welterweight Reese Lynch, middleweight Sam Hickey and light heavyweight Sean Lazzerini won the championship.

Elsewhere, Neah Evans won the silver medal in her race on the women's road.

Eilish said on Sunday about the win.

She added: "I am confident that this year's athlete performance will inspire future athletes."

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon is one of Scotland's representatives , he tweeted, "@Team_Scotland - absolutely amazing" and congratulated the national team.

England's flag bearers for the 22nd edition of the tournament include England's Jake Jarman, Jersey's Daniel Lee and Northern Ireland's Dylan Eagleson

Consisting of 260 players, the team consisted of 126 men and 134 women.
